About the Project

The EU4EnergyEfficiency project supports the green transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina by improving energy efficiency in public buildings, strengthening institutional capacity and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.

The project, funded by the European Union, with a total value of over 6 million euros, is jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Czech Development Agency (CZDA), in close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina (MOFTER).

Project Objectives

  • Support Bosnia and Herzegovina in meeting its Energy Community obligations and aligning with EU energy and climate standards
  • Reduce energy consumption in public buildings
  • Increase the use of renewable energy sources
  • Strengthen institutional capacities for sustainable energy management
  • Introduce the Energy Service Company (ESCO) model to attract sustainable investments

Key Activities

  • Launching public calls and implementing comprehensive energy renovations in public buildings, including pilot ESCO projects
  • Providing comprehensive training for over 400 public and private sector representatives on practical energy-efficiency measures and the application of the ESCO financing mechanism
  • Conducting public awareness campaigns across the country on the benefits of energy efficiency
  • Providing technical expertise and international know-how through Czech experience

Expected Results

By the end of the project, it is expected to:

  • Renovate over 27,000 m² of public buildings
  • Achieve annual energy savings of approximately 1.8 GWh
  • Reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 1,200 tons per year
